Abdomen- Taylor Flashcards
What is peritoneum composed of?
Mesothelium
Thin CT
Contents of abdominal cavity
Viscera
Peritoneum
Fluid-filled spaces
What is the peritoneal cavity?
Part of abdominal cavity located between the parietal and visceral peritoneum
No organs!
What are peritoneal mesenteries?
Extensions of parietal peritoneum from ab wall to ab organs
=visceral peritoneum
What does the peritoneal mesentery allow for?
Neurovascular cnxs between nerves and BVs of posterior wall and organs
What are peritoneal ligaments?
Tissue connecting organs to other organs or to the ab wall
The course of the lesser omentum
Liver -> duodenum -> stomach
What structure divides the peritoneal into its 2 sacs?
The omentum
What is the epiploic foramen?
A passage that runs behind the lesser omentum and cnx the greater and lesser sacs
What is the main arterial supply for the abdomen?
Abdominal aorta
What do the paired branches of the abdominal aorta supply?
Nondigestive organs
Body wall
What do the unpaired branches of the abdominal aorta supply?
Digestive organs
Spleen
Name the arteries of the paired branches of the abdominal aorta:
Inferior phrenic Superior suprarenal Middle suprarenal Renal Gonadal Lumbar
Name the branches of the celiac trunk that supply the digestive organs
Splenic artery
Common hepatic artery
Left gastric artery
Name the unpaired branches of the abdominal aorta
Celiac trunk
Superior mesenteric artery
Inferior mesenteric artery
What does the splenic artery supply?
Spleen
Pancreas
Greater curvature of stomach
What does the common hepatic artery supply?
Liver
First part of duodenum
Part of duodenum
What does the left gastric artery supply?
Abdominal esophagus
Stomach
(Foregut)
What does the superior mesenteric artery supply?
Midgut
Small part of pancreas
What does the inferior mesenteric artery supply?
Hindgut
What does the abdominal aorta branch to at its ending?
Left and right common iliac arteries -> internal and external iliacs
What is the drainage system for the parts that receive paired branches of the abdominal aorta?
Inferior vena cava
What is the drainage system for parts that receive unpaired branches of the abdominal aorta?
The hepatic portal vein system
What veins joined together to form the hepatic portal vein?
Splenic vein
Superior mesenteric vein
Flow for hepatic portal vein
Artery -> capillary -> portal vein -> capillary -> vein
What is the cisterna chyli?
A thin-walled lymphatic sac located on superior posterior abdominal wall
Contains milky lymph that is high in fat because fats don’t go thru the first pass system in the liver
What gives rise to the thoracic duct?
Cisterna chyli
What is the parasympathetic system up thru the first 2/3 of the transverse colon?
Vagus nerve
What is the innervation of the rest of the small intestine?
The sacral spinal part of the craniosacral nervous system
