A: Joints of lower limb Flashcards
What is acetabulum made up of?
Ischium, Ilium, pubis bone
What is the part of acetabulum covered in cartilage called?
Lunate surface
Ligament of femoral head
Attaches to femoral head and transverse acetabular ligament.
Contains acetabular branch of obturator artery
What ligaments are in capsule?
Iliofemoral
Pubofemoral
Ischiofemoral
What blood vessels supply hip joint?
Medial circumflex femoral artery
Lateral circumflex femoral artery
Acetabular branch of obturator artery
What joints are present at the knee?
Femero-tibial
Patello-femoral
Function of anterior + posterior cruciate ligaments:
Anterior: prevents femur sliding posteriorly on tibia.
Posterior: Prevents femur rolling forwards.
Function of collateral ligaments:
Taught during knee extension for stability
TCL = prevents abduction
FCL = prevents adduction
Bursae that communicate with knee joint:
- Suprapatellar bursa
- Bursa between lateral meniscus + popliteus tendon.
Proximal tibiofibular joints:
- synovial joint
- Plane joint
- Slight gliding movement
Distal tibiofibular joints:
Fibrous
Little movement
Stabilises ankle
Ligaments of ankle joint
Lateral ligament
Medial ligament
Muscles + tendons supporting arches in foot
Spring ligament in medial arch
Long + short plantar ligament
Peroneus longus tendon
What is the unhappy triad?
ACL
Tibial collateral ligament
Medial meniscus
