99-07 - Uniform Clothing Flashcards
Responsibility of officers in regards to uniform clothing.
All officers are responsible to monitor and ensure compliance with this policy as it relates to their assigned staff including exchange or relief personnel.
Uniform clothing in presentable condition.
All uniform clothing articles shall be maintained in a presentable condition. Faded, worn or damaged uniform clothing is not acceptable. This includes crests or other markings provided with clothing. When uniform clothing is no longer in acceptable condition, it is responsibility of the user to retire and dispose of the item/article and order replacement articles using his/her uniform clothing points.
Court, funerals or various city functions
…while representing BFES, shall wear a dress uniform as described in Appendix “I”. On-duty fire suppression personnel may wear uniform clothing fatigues at designated functions with prior approval from the Fire Chief.
Consumption of Alcoholic beverages.
Is prohibited while wearing BFES uniform clothing. In special circumstances exceptions to this rule may be made upon the prior approval of the Fire Chief.
Maintain a dress uniform.
All personnel must have and maintain a neat, clean and acceptable (respectable, clean and properly pressed) dress uniform as described in Appendix “I”
Prior to approving the annual clothing order…..
….the PC will ensure that all personnel have a complete and acceptable dress uniform as described in Appendix “I”
Supplement with civilian clothing
When reporting to and from work, anyone choosing to wear uniform clothing shall not supplement it with civilian clothing.
Undershirt
When the uniform clothing fatigue shirt is open at the neck, the only undergarment allowed to be shown is a dept. issued navy blue cotton T-Shirt, unless otherwise approved.
Clothing containing polyester…..
Clothing that contains polyester may not be worn under bunker gear and may not be worn to any emergency incident or during any training that may involve live-fire. This includes the tactical job shirt and various articles of work-out clothing.
Captains will ensure…
….their respective personnel are appropriately dressed prior to commencing duties as outlined within the Policy
During Physical Fitness….
appropriate shorts, warm-up pants, warm-up jackets and t-shirts are permitted
Emergency response required during physical fitness.
personnel must ensure that any clothing containing polyester is removed prior to response and must ensure that the appropriate footwear is worn. All personnel are expected to have prescribed uniform clothing fatigues on their assigned apparatus/vehicles since they may not return directly to the “home” station at the conclusion of the response.
If full bunker gear is not required…
If full bunker gear is not required during an emergency response , only uniform clothing fatigue clothing as outlined in Appendix “A” may be worn.
Footwear…
…Must be kept appropriately cleaned and polished and securely fastened. Safety bootlaces must be done up and the zipper utilized for easy removal.
Socks..
..worn with footwear must be all black.
Dept. issued Baseball Caps.
1-hats may not be worn by personnel while inside any building
2-Hats may be worn in conjunction with station wear while working outside where approved head protection is not required
3-Hats must be worn with peak facing forward (not backwards or sideways)
4-The above hats may not be worn with dress uniform
5-Other than the dress uniform hat, employees will only be permitted to wear the dept. issued baseball cap and/or toque.
Collar insignias
shall be worn in a manner consistent throughout the department. The front edge of the insignia shall not be more than one-half to three-quarter inches from the front edge of the collar
Tunic lapel buttons.
shall not be more than one-quater of an inch from the edge of the outside edge of the lapel.
Mixing of ensembles.
Dress and station uniforms are distinct ensembles, components shall not be mixed.
Items that are believed to contain a manufacturers defect.
will be evaluated by the Supply and Equipment Officer and/or the manufacturer. Only those items that are covered under warranty by the manufacturer will be replaced. All other items will be considered to be worn out. It is the sole responsibility of the user to order replacement items for any worn out items as part of his.her annual clothing order.
Damaged Items - procedure
Clothing items that are damaged in the course of the duty will be replaced on an as required basis once the required approvals have been obtained
- Advise your PC/DivC of the damage, in writing
- The PC, as applicable, reviews and confirms that the damage was caused during the course of active duty and confirms that replacement is appropriate given the age/condition of the item(generally speaking items older than 3 years will not be replaced)
- PC must review and approve all replacement items necessitated by damage
- Once approved for replacement by the applicable PC the Supply and Equipment Officer will process the replacement asa soon as possible . It is not the responsibility of the SEO to determine the appropriateness of replacement.
Summer Dress
Summer dress may be worn from May 15th to September 1st (No tunic required for normal daily use). During July and August, ties are not required, provided dress shirts are opened a max of one button at the collar, and no undergarment is visible at the open neck. Parkas shall be worn from November 15th to March 31st. Variances in weather will call for adjustment tot he above dates at the discretion of the DC/DivC/PC.
