9. cell fractination Flashcards
1
Q
Whats is cell fractionation? Why is it done?
A
This is the process used to separate cellular components while preserving the function of each component. It is done to study the organelles.
2
Q
How do we separate the cellular components? What’s it the most dense organelle and least dense organelle?
A
It can be done with centrifugation where the organelles are separated based on density.
The most dense organelle is the nuclei the least dense organelle is the ribosome.
3
Q
What else can you do to separate it?
A
You can use homogenisation. It uses a mix of solution that is ground and minced and chopped with the sample tissue to stop osmotic damage
