7. Immunohistochemistry Flashcards
What is imunohistochemistry?
Immuohistochemistry is the process of using Antibodies to identify the presence of certain antigens.
Describe direct imunohistochemistry?
It’s when the antigen of interest is directly bonded to a primary antibody, specific for that antigen.
Describe indirect immunohistochemistry?
Indirect imunohistochemistry uses an unlabelled primary antibody which is only detected when bound to secondary antibodies of that antigen.
What’s an polyclonal antibody? What is an monoclonal antibody?
A polyclonal antibody means that it arisen from a different B-cell within the body.
Monoclonal is a clone of one unique parent cell.
Why would imunohistochemistry be usefull?
These methods are used widely for detection of abnormal cells such as cancerous tumours.
