20. Golgi Apparatus Flashcards
Golgi apparatus structure
Does it have an entry and exit? What are they called? What’s the Golgi apparatus made out of? What is the space between the cisternae called?
Function of Golgi
What’s it’s main function? What are som important modifications that occur in the Golgi? What happens with the proteins from rER? How do the modified proteins leave the Golgi? Where are they headed normally?
The Golgi apparatus has an entry called Cis and an exit called transface. It’s made out of stacks of cisternae. The space between its cisternae is called lumen.
Is main function is to traffic and sort proteins from the rER. Some important modifications are glycosylation, sulfation, phosphorylation and limited proteolysis of proteins. The proteins from the rER are modified and packaged for other roles. The modified proteins leave the Golgi apparatus in vesicles that are coated with proteins. They are normally directing their movement towards lysosomes, plasma membrane or secretion by exocytosis.
