Election of 1800-
the federalists supported John Adams and Charles Pinckney going against Republican nominated Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr. It was different because they did not campaign around the country, they wrote letters.
11th Amendment
US courts cannot hear cases and make decisions against a state if it is sued by a citizen who lives in another state or a person who lives in another country Without permission.
12th Amendment-
each elector must cast distinct votes for president and vice president, instead of two votes for president

tax collected on goods that are imported.

john adams last minute appointees. They need to receive official papers. Some of them had not yet received them when Jefferson became president.

John Adams used this act to make hundreds of his apppoint before his last days of president.
Marbury V. Madison-
Marbury wants to force a delivery. Marshall said this was unconstatutional.
Laissez-Faire
Jefferson’s view on the size of government. He promoted a smaller “states rights” view

was chief justice elected by john adams. Made some rules for the government from cases.
Aaron Burr-
was the vice president, killed alexander hamiltion.
Revolt in Santo Domingo
enslaved africans revolted against plantation owners. Napoleon sent troops but was unsuccessful.
Why did Jefferson think the Louisiana Territory would be a good acquisition for the United States
The reasons included future protection, expansion, prosperity and the mystery of unknown lands

It took Lewis and Clark 18 months or 1 ½ years.
Did any states threaten to secede from the Union
No, but people plotted to secede from the Union. This plan did not work.
