6.1-6.2 Flashcards
Prokaryote
Simpler cells with no nucleus
Eukaryote
Complex cells with DNA contained in the nucleus
Structure of the cell membrane
A phospholipid bilayer that makes up the barrier of the cell that separates the inside from the outside of the cell. It has a fluid mosaic structure.
Role of lipids in the cell membrane
They make the main part of the membrane, forming the phospholipid bylayer.
Role of carbohydrates in the cell membrane
They can act as markers on the outside of the membrane to differentiate the cell from others.
Role of proteins in the cell membrane
Have various functions, for example, they pump larger molecules in and out of the cell.
Prokaryote cell benefits
More efficient with energy and faster to reproduce
Eukaryote cell benefits
They can perform specialized tasks.
