1.4 Flashcards
What is the difference between mass and volume?
Mass is the matter of an object while volume is the space an object occupies.
How is the mean calculated?
Add up all the numbers and then divide that number by the amount of numbers you added.
How many digits are you supposed to estimate to?
One digit past how precisely your tool can measure.
What is the definition of Accuracy?
How close measurements are to a given value.
What is the definition of Precision?
How close measurements are to each other.

How do you find the volume of an irregular object?
You put the object in a graduated cylinder and record the difference in the water’s height.
What tool is used to measure mass?
Scale.
What change would happen to something’s mass on the moon?
Nothing.
How do you find the median of a set?
You list all the numbers from smallest to greatest and then find the number in the very middle.
How do you find the range of a set?
You subtract the smallest number from the largest.
What is the difference between precision and accuracy?
Accuracy is relevant to how close measurements are to a TARGET value, while precision is relevant to how close the measurements are to EACH OTHER.
When measuring using a graduated cylinder, what do you measure from?
The meniscus.
What is the equation to find Fahrenheit?
F = (C) (9/5) + 32
What is the equation to find Celcius?
C= (F-32) (5/9)
What is the equation for Kelvin?
K = C +273
