§5.7 Flashcards
There are five sensory receptors in your skin, they are sensitive to:
Touch, a light stroke or tap
Pressure, a heavy toch
Temperature, hot or cold
Pain, when something is damaging your tissue
Why can you tell if something is hard, soft, sharp, rough, smooth or cold
We have many different sensory receptors
There are three main layers of skin:
Epidermis, is the layer you can see, top layer
Dermis, second layer
Subcutaneous fat, the bottom layer
What is the epidermis?
It produces new skin cells, gives your skin its colour and protects your body
What does the dermis?
It produces sweat, grows hair, makes oil and brings blood to your skin it contains your sensory receptors and nerve endings
What does the subcutaneous fat?
It works as a padding to protect your muscles and bones from bumps and falls and it controls your body temperature
