54. TER Flashcards
two commercially available TER systems and type of design
Both BioMedtrixIOWA STATE (cemented and porous)TATE (cementless–press fit)both unlinked, semi constrained 2 component designboth eliminate motion btwn radius/ulnatherefore procedure placement includes radioulnar synostosis (
IOWA state
–unlinked, semi constrained 2 component design–cemented humeral stem and RU component–porous humeral stem for osteointegration–cobalt chrome humeral stem–120 degree UHMWPE RU component–symmetric articular surfacing (DO NOT DIFFER RIGHT VS LEFT IMPLANTS)–sequential placement–requires humeral wedge ostectomy and RU semicircular ostectomies
TATE
–unlinked, semi constrained 2 component design–cementless–cobalt chrome humeral component–175 degree ar UHMWPE RU component w cobalt chrome backing–both humeral and RU components are porous for osteointegration–simultaneous placement–requires resurfacing but limited bone resection
contraindication to TER
chronic elbow luxation bc compromised ST periarticular envelope that may increase the risk of post op luxationother contraindications include neurologic dysfunction and skeletally immature dogs
different surgical approach TATE vs IOWA state
TATE: medial epicondyle osteotomy without elbow luxationIOWA: lateral collateral desmotomy with elbow luxation
principle complications with IOWA state
ulnar fracture and elbow luxation
T/Felbow luxation has been reported with TATE system
FALSEluxation has not been a reported complication with TATEcomplications have been related to infection and/or medial epicondyle repair
