As a new engineer how will I determine what constitutes something as OOS?
A
- Experience is one off the most important factors in determining what constitutes OOS
- I have exp in fire service and am working on gaining exp as engineer.
- I also have numerous mentors I can reach out to if I need advice
- I plan on continuing to add to my experience, training that can help to fill in the gaps like AZ state fire school
- Memorized lists of OOS criteria

How many categories of “priority” are there?
A
- Technically two: low and high priority
2. But there are instances that are serious enough to justify immediate action, but does not need to go out of service

What are low priority issues?
And what do I do?
A
- does not affect the safe operations of the apparatus while in motion or operating at an emergency scene
- Fill out preventative maintenance form

And what do I do?
A
- affects the safe operations of the apparatus while in motion or operating at an emergency scene
- Select “OUT OF SERVICE” option in zonar
- Must be communicated with the company officer, battalion chief, and mechanic
- arrangements made for a resolution or a change over to a reserve apparatus

For those instances that are serious enough to justify immediate action, but does not need to go out of service, what should be done?
A
- Select “NEEDS ATTENTION” option in zonar
