1. I have wanted to be one since I got off probation;
2. started working, but decided I would make a better engineer with more experience
3. Chief Stephens started encouraging me to work on my engineers packet about a year ago, and I felt like this was the right time for several reasons

1. Everybody plays an important role,
2. but engineers have a unique role in making sure their apparatus, equipment, and crews are ready to respond to emergencies
3. I enjoy working hard to make sure that we are ready for all emergencies; whether through fitness; checkoffs, training, etc.

1. While captains have an essential leadership role,
2. good engineers, as an informal second in command on the truck, work hard to make sure their crews are taken care of on and off the emergency scene
3. It gives me a great sense of satisfaction to take care of my crew in whatever capacity
