- I understand accountability to mean two distinct things
- It can mean being accountable for myself and my actions
- It can also mean being accountable for others and their safety
- I will answer what accountability means for me personally and what it means for me as an engineer

II. Being accountable for myself
A
- On the one hand, being accountable for my self means that I am obligated to accept responsibility for my actions when I fail:
- When I fail, I need to own it, grow from it, and pass that wisdom on to others
- I am obligated to demonstrate honesty and integrity at all times and without fail, because of the high level of trust placed upon us
- This also means that I am accountable to be the person that the citizens of Gilbert demand and deserve:

- Besides being accountable for myself, I am also responsible for the welfare of others
- This especially includes the citizens we are entrusted to protect
- One of the most dangerous things that we do is drive fire trucks
- I am obligated to drive with due regard and situational awareness at all times and to follow all driving rules and laws

- I believe that accountability means taking ownership for myself and my actions
- And it means taking responsibility for others and their safety
- We have a personal responsibility to our organization, our crews, and ourselves
- but, most importantly, we have a personal responsibility to our citizens to ensure we live up to the the demands of our profession
