Port 3389 [Windows Pro can use]
- START – Remote Desktop Settings – ON [get IP address of PC]
- START – Remote Desktop Connections – put in IP address [username & password]
- VPN
o Creates a secure tunnel to a private network over internet
o Required to access resources in LAN over internet
o Various protocols can be used: PPTP, L2TP, IPSec, Open VPN, SSL-VPN
- RDP
o Used to connect to a Windows desktop over the network
o A VPN connection should always be used
o Never expose port 3389 to public internet
- VNC = Virtual Network Computer
o Is like RDP but multiplatform
o Local screen still visible
o Useful to demonstrate to user
o Can reveal confidential data
o Available on Windows, Linux, or MacOS
- SSH
o Provides a secure command line to remote system
- RMM = Remote Monitoring & Management
o Used by technician to connect to a computer
o Locally installed agents that can be accessed by a management service provider
o LogMeIn / Team Viewer
- MSRA = Microsoft Remote Assistance = Quick Assist
o A feature that allows users to view / control a remote Windows computer over a network or internet to resolve issues without directly touching
o NO port needs to be open necessary
o Give assistance to someone & see the screen

o Screen sharing software
o Video conference software
o File transfer software
o Desktop management software
