Q
  1. Elements of fixed orthodontic appliances
    d/ The role of ligatures
A
  • Metal/elastic rubber
  • Orthodontic ligatures are tiny rubber bands that tie the brackets and wires together.
  • help to evenly distribute the occlusal forces (the force exerted on opposing teeth when your upper and lower teeth meet together) to straighten your teeth.

    a/ Indication of Hyrax
A
  • serious narrowing of the upper arch
  • bilateral or unilateral cross bite

16
Q
  1. Fixed orthodontic appliances examples
b/ Usage and Effect of Hyrax
A

1/ Usage
- Hyrax is used in mixed and permanent dentition, while children are growing.
- After the end of the development hyrax can’t be used (alone)

2/ Affect:
* - ripping („breaking”) of the sutura palatina mediana

17
Q
  1. Fixed orthodontic appliances examples
c/ Cases that need to use Hyrax
A

Case I - narrowing, lack of place
Case II - Gap between the central incisors shows the correct result (shows the sceletal affect)

18
Q
  1. Fixed orthodontic appliances examples
d/ How do we use Hyrax in permanent dentition
A

Structure in permanent dentition:
- Metal bands on teeth 14,16,24,26
- 6 or 12 mm expanding screw

19
Q
  1. Fixed orthodontic appliances examples
e/ How do we use Hyrax in mixed dentition
A

Structure in mixed dentition:
- Acrylic splint on the lateral teeth (canines, primary molars)

6 or 12 mm expanding screw

20
Q
  1. Fixed orthodontic appliances examples
f/ Characteristics of Fixed bimaxillary appliances
A

Mainly used as an early treatment during the period of the intensive growth

  • Application in a later phase these appliances have a minimal skeletal and more dentoalveolar effects.
  • They intrude the upper molars and protrude the lower incisors
