31. Parts and parameters of the syringe and the needle, used in dentistry. Flashcards
- Parts of the syringe
a/ Identify these parts
1/ Cylinder/barrel –calibrated: 2 ml (3,5,10) content, 1/10 scale
2/ plunger –hermetically closes the cylinder
3/ Conus –2 types: record & luer
4/ Barrel flange
5/ Plunger flange
- Parts of the syringe
2/ What type of syringe is most commonly used?
2 mL syringe
- What are the 3 parts of needle?
- Parts of the needle
b/ The role of the olive?
Olive: surface prepared sloped, the two sides form edges that meet in a pinpoint. Chiseling angle: 12- 15%. In the middle of the surface the lumen can be found.
- What are the types of needles used in dental anaesthesia
*Record needle –metal manubrium
*modern disposable needles –plastic manubrium that fits the conus (friction)
*Carpule: invented by Harvey Cook in 1917 nowadays becoming more popular
- How do we use a syringe such as SecureGuard?
1/ After injection, the plunger connects with the needle and is manually retracted into the barrel to prevent needle stick injury
2/ Upon full retraction, the plunger is broken off to prevent re-use
- What are the parts of the Carpule system?
Parts:
*ampule –contains the sterile solution
*piston lock
*needle –sharp on both sides
- What are the parts of the Carpule system?
Parts:
*ampule –contains the sterile solution
*piston lock
*needle –sharp on both sides
(In the beginning there were sterilization problems, but at the end of the decade the disposable systems appeared (expensive).)
- What are Parameters of dental needles?
1/ diameter: 0,45 –0,5 mm (26G, 27G)
2/ length
+) 25 mm (short needle)
+) 42 mm (long needle)
