Structuring the CONTENT and SIZE of jobs for efficient task performance, flexibility, and worker satisfaction.
Includes: Components of tasks, conditions, competency, requirements, appraisal, rewards etc…
Job specialization
Occurs when the work required is subdivided into separate jobs assigned to different people to improve work efficiency
Job Enrichment
An employee assumes more responsibility over tasks
Why do job enrichment?
- Motivation and morale
- Sense of ownership, increased job quality
Job Rotation
Workers are rotated among a variety of jobs, spending a specific length of time at each
Why do job rotation?
- Worker flexibility, eliminated boredom and worker satisfaction
Job Enlargement
Adding tasks to an existing job for:
1. Motivation
2. Efficiency and flexibility
Re-Engineering
Rethink and Radically redesign an organization’s business procedures.

Duty Allocation
Company creates a team or group of departments, each having a specific role
Informal changes that employee makes in their jobs

Motivated to help the organization and colleague by doing little things they are not required to do
Delegation of Authority vs Micromanagers
- A supervisor assigns a task to an employee who will be held accountable and responsible in its completion
- A supervisor attempts to take charge of everything in the organization
