Mnemonics
Devices or techniques used to aid encoding, storage, + retrieval of info.
Written traditions
Practices in which knowledge, stories + customs are preserved + shared through reading + writing.
Acronyms
A mnemonic device in which the first letters of items form a pronounceable word to aid memory (eg. ANZAC, BODMAS).
Acrostic
A mnemonic device in which the first letter of items create a phrase, rhyme, or poem to aid memory (eg. ‘never, eat, soggy weetbix’ - north south east west).
Method of loci
A mnemonic device that converts items into mental images + associates them with specific locations to aid memory.
Oral traditions
Practices in which knowledge, stories, + customs are preserved + shared through spoken word + movement.
- Used by Aboriginal + Torres Strait Islanders.
Sung narratives
Stories that share important cultural, ecological, and survival information through the use of singing, harmony, + rhythm.
Songlines
Multi-modal performances conducted as a family or community that travels through country + spaces in the landscape that record journey, link important sites, + describe ways to live, care for, + nurture country.
