2.Measuring And Recording Animal Behaviour Flashcards
What is frequency?
The number of times a behaviour occurs within the observation period.
What is duration?
The length of time each behaviour occurs during the observation period.
What is latency?
The time between the stimulus occurring and the response behaviour
What does an ethogram list?
Species-specific behaviours to be observed and recorded in the study
How is a time budget calculated?
Record the duration of each behaviour, the total time of observation and use this to calculate propitiation of time spent doing each behaviour
What is anthropomorphism?
Attributing human characteristics to non-human species. It is important to treat information in a scientific manner.
Why is it important to avoid anthropomorphism?
Because anthropomorphism can lead to invalid conclusions
What is an ethogram?
Shows behaviours shown by a species in a wild context and allows the construction of time budgets.
