2A.2 Fluid Movement Flashcards
what is laminar flow
a fluid that moves with uniform lines in which the velocity is constant over time
when does laminar flow occur
it occurs at very low speeds
what is turbulent flow
it is when the velocity of a fluid in a particular place would change over time, often in unpredictable manners
when does laminar flow change to turbulent flow
it would change when the fluid velocity increases up to a certain value
the velocity at which the laminar flow changes to the turbulent flow depends on what factors
- the fluid itself
2. the area of the shape the fluid is going throw
what is a Newtonian fluid
it is a fluid that flows newtons equations about frictional force in between the layers in a streamlined flow
what are streamlines
they are lines of laminar flow in which velocity is constant over time (same direction, same speed)
what are the disadvantages of having a car with poorly designed with a turbulent flow
more friction on the car so travels and lower speeds, and more fuel consumption
