2.93 The role of the skin in temperature loss Flashcards
1
Q
What happens in vasodilation?
A
-The hypothalamus detect the increase
-Sweat glands release sweat (cools skin through evaporation)
-hairs relax and lay flat allowing heat to not get trapped next to the skin
-blood vessels dilate to increase blood flow to the skin for heat to leave by radiation
2
Q
What happens in vasoconstriction?
A
-The hypothalamus detetcs the decrease
-Hairs stand up to trap warm air next to the skin
-blood vessels contract, reducing blood flow to the skin
-The body shivers
