2.53 White blood cells Flashcards
What are the 2 types of white blood cells?
-Phagocytes
-Lymphocytes
What do phagocytes do?
They ingest pathogens by wrapping their vacuole arms around them and secreting digestive enzymes
What do lymphocytes do?
They produce specific antibodies that only fit one type of antigen on a pathogen
What is the body’s immune system response to infection?
-The pathogen enters the bloodstream and begins to multiply
-A release of toxins and infections of cells lead to symptoms felt by the person
-Phagocytes that pass the pathogens engulf them
-Lymphocytes that pass the pathogens
-It will then produce specific antibodies to combat that particular pathogen
-The lymphocyte will then clone itself
-Antibodies destroy the pathogen
-Phagocytes engulf and digest the destroyed pathogens
