26: Drugs For Glaucoma Flashcards
Anterior segment
The front of the eyethat extends from the lens to the cornea and contains the anterior and posterior of the chambers
Anterior chamber
The part of the anterior Eye segment that extends from the iris to the cornea
Aqueous humor
The clear fluid made continuously by the ciliary body of the eye that circulates from the posterior chamber’s through the people and into the anterior chamber, where it drains. This fluid helps maintain the pressure and shape of the eyeball
Conjunctiva
A thin, clear membrane containing blood vessels that lines the eyelid and covers the front of the eye
Glaucoma
A condition in which the aqueous humor does not drain normally out of the eye, causing a rise of intraocular pressure to levels that may damage the optic nerve
Intraocular pressure IOP
The fluid pressure inside the eyeball that helps to maintain the correct shape of the eye. The normal range for IOP is 10 to 20 mmHg
Miosis
Construction of the people, making the opening smaller and letting Less light into the eye
Mydriasis
Dilation of the people, making the opening larger and letting more light into the eye
Photo receptors
Special nerve endings that react to light and change it into electrical impulses that are perceived as images by the brain
Posterior chamber
The part of the anterior segment of the eye between the lens in the iris
Posterior segment
The entire back part of the audit from the lens to the area of the sclera where the optic nerve leaves the eye
Punctum
The opening at the inner corner of the eye to the tube that drains tears into the nasolacrimal sack. It can be blocked by light pressing on it
Retina
The lining of the back part of the alley, opposite the pupil, that contains photo receptors
Sclera
The tough white outer layer of the entire Eye
