2.3B Translocation (in phloem) Flashcards
1
Q
what is translocation
A
the active (ATP) movement of the soluble products of photosynthesis (sucrose + amino acids) through the phloem, from source to sink
2
Q
where is the source(production)
A
leaf
3
Q
where is the sink(where products are required)
A
roots
4
Q
explain the process of MASS flow translocation
A
- sucrose actively pumped into phloem by companion cells
- water potential decreased, water diffuses from xylem via osmosis
- hydrostatic pressure increases ∴ water + solutes forced downwards (to relieve pressure) = MASS FLOW
