2.3A Different types of circulatory system Flashcards
name the 4 types of circulatory system
- open
- closed
2a. single
2b. double
what is a open circulatory system
Blood is not held within blood vessels. It circulates within the animal’s body cavity.
oxygen is delivered to the tissues by a tracheal system
what species is an open circulatory system seen in
invertebrates
what are the disadvantages of an open circulatory system
- slow movement of blood due to low pressure
- body movements have an effect on the circulation of blood
- little control over direction of blood flow
what is a closed circulatory system
blood is held within blood vessels and does not leave.
Tissue fluid is responsible for bathing animals tissue. This allows exchange of nutrients and waste
what species is a closed circulatory system seen in
vertebrates and larger invertebrates
advantages of a closed system
- faster movement of blood (due to higher pressure)
- faster removal of waste + delivery of nutrients
what is a closed single system
blood flows through the heart once on each circuit of the body
what is a closed double system
blood flows through the heart twice for each circuit of the body.
a double system is made up of 2 separate circuits
