1.3 Cytosis Flashcards
why is cytosis needed
to transport large molecules
- enzymes
- antibodies
across cell membrane
name types of cytosis
- exocytosis
- endocytosis
-(phagocytosis)
-(pinocytosis)
why are they referred to as “bulk transport”
transport a large amount of material
what is endocytosis
large particles or molecules transported into the cell
explain the process of endocytosis
- cell membrane folds inwards to form a cavity around particles (invagination)
- membrane completely encircles the particles, ∴ forming a vesicle
- vesicle moves into cell
what is phagocytosis
when solid material (bacteria) is taken into cell
what is pinocytosis
when fluid is taken into cell
what moves via exocytosis
(secreted proteins)
- hormones
- some enzymes
where are secreted proteins found at the start of endocytosis
golgi body (modified before secretion)
explain the process of exocytosis
- vesicles containing protein BUD OFF of golgi, ∴ going to the cell membrane
- vesicles FUSE with cell membrane
- protein secreted
is cytosis a passive process?
no. it requires energy in the form of ATP
