Rare disorder that is inflammatory, demyelinating polyneurpathy.
Guillain-Barre Syndrome
Mechanisms if infection of Campylobacter jejuni?
- Ingestion/Exposure
- Bacterial gastroenteritis / Diarrhea
- Last for 1-2 weeks (Treatment) / >2 weeks (Untreated) - If left untreated, leads to Guillain-Barre Syndrome (May mistaken as stroke)
- Destroys myelin sheaths (Demyelinating polyneuropathy)
- Destroys nerve
Symptoms of GBS that mistaken as stroke?
Flaccid paralysis and

Weakness
Tingling in lower extremities
limb weakness
Difficulty in swallowing
Shortness of breath
Flaccid paralysis
NOTE: Numbing in GBS is not permanents (On and OFF) Unlike stroke, 72 hours causes the muscles to stiffen which is why they cannot move
NOTE: When treating GBS, some nerves may take time to heal and some dont
What is the treatment for GBS?
IV of immunoglobulins
