Eg causes of acute cord compression?
Sx?

Mx?

A

Vertebral fracture, malignancy, infection (abcess) or ruptured disc compress the cord.

Act quickly to prevent long term damage.

Symptoms: back pain, a dermatome of hyperalgesia, paralysis and incontinence.

Diagnose with X-ray or MRI.

Treat with dexamethasone or surgery to relieve compression.

300mg aspirin daily for 2/52 if ischaemic

Thrombolysis with alteplase if ischaemic

What is raynauds?
Can occur with?
What worsens?
What mx?

A

Episodic Ateriospasm, most common in fingers but also in toes and other extremities. May be triggered by cold.
Numb, pallor, pain. Severe cases result in gangrene.

Can occur with systemic sclerosis or scleroderma usually idiopathic.

Worsened by smoking and stress.

If treatment is necessary, use CCBs.
