21 Nervous System (Brain Lobes & Features) Flashcards
What are the 4 brain lobes and where are they located?
Frontal (superior and anterior)
Parietal (superior and medial)
Occipital (posterior and inferior to parietal lobe)
Temporal (inferior to other 3 lobes)
What functions are co-ordinated in the frontal lobe?
Voluntary motor activities
Pre-frontal cortex (personality, intellect, ‘higher’ self)
What functions are co-ordinated in the parietal lobe?
Sensory input
Body orientation
What functions are co-ordinated in the occipital lobe?
Visual
What functions are co-ordinated in the temporal lobe?
Auditory
Speech
What are the main landmarks of the brain?
Central sulcus: divides frontal and parietal lobes
Pre-central gyrus: runs anteriorly along central sulcus (primary motor area)
Post-central gyrus: runs posteriorly along central sulcus (primary somatosensory area)
Median longitudinal fissue: divides left and right hemispheres
Transverse central fissue: divides hemispheres and cerebellum
