From 1944 how was education decided? How did the parties feel about it?
The Butler Act and the tripartite system decided where you went to school. The left of the Labour party wanted comprehensives with no 11+ exam, but were disappointed. The centerists and the conservatives were happy with the tripartite system.
What was the opinion on comprehensives by the end of the 1950s?

divided. Right of Labour liked the tripartite system, but some felt it was arbitrary and unfair.
What was the purpose of Comprehensive schools?
they aimed to reduce the stigma of not passing the 11+ exam, since it was found the exam could be inaccurate anyway because brains mature at different ages.
what would comprehensive schooling look like?
more resources, more students, more courses, and would be more flexible in accepting students.
