Family Allowances act 1945

National Insurance Act 1946
4s 11d charge on all workers weekly
unemployment benefits for all workers
pensions for men 65+ and women 60+
singles received £1.30 and married couples recieved £2.10
why was the National Insurance policy problematic?
everyone was paid the same, so poor people were paying a much larger proportion of their income
Industrial Injuries Act 1946
people were paid compensation for injuries caused in the workplace.
there was an average of 2425 people killed each year at work miners accounted for a 1/4 of this
National Assistance Act 1948
welfare for those who weren’t covered by the initial National Insurance Act 1946.
Single mothers, homeless, disabled were all valid claimants.
- abolished the unpopular Public Assistance Committees
- established a National Assistance Board
- delegated responsibility to the local authorities, such as promoting the welfare of the handicapped.
