2. Circulatory and Respiratory system review Flashcards
What is the circulatory system?
The circulatory system is the system that moves blood throughout the body
What does the circulatory system include.
The circulatory system includes the heart, blood and blood vessels
What carries oxygen to the cells?
Red blood cells in blood carry oxygen to the cells.
What happens when the body uses oxygen?
When oxygen is used by cells carbon dioxide is waste
What happens to the waste carbon dioxide?
The red blood cells also carry the carbon dioxide so it can leave the body
Is blood a solid, liquid or gas?
Blood is liquid
How does blood moves?
blood is pumped through a network of tubes
What are blood vessels?
Blood vessels are the tubes that blood flows through
What are the three types of blood vessels?
The three types of blood vessels are arteries, veins and capillaries
What are arteries?
Arteries are thick-walled blood vessels that move oxygen rich blood to the cells of the body
What are veins?
Veins are thinner-walled blood vessels that bring blood back to the heart and lungs so it can be enriched with more oxygen
What are capillaries?
Capillaries are very thin blood vessels that link arteries with veins, they are the site of oxygen diffusing from capillaries into cells and carbon dioxide diffusion from cells into capillaries
What is the role of the heart?
The role of the heart is to pump blood
How many chambers does the heart have?
The heart has four chambers
What are the upper chambers?
The upper chambers are the right and left atrium
