2 body systems vocab Flashcards
What are arteries?
Blood vessels that carry blood away from the heart.
What are Capillaries?
Capillaries are the network of tiny blood vessels that connect arteries to venules.
What is the circulatory system?
The body system that moves blood throughout the body; includes the heart, blood vessels, and blood.
What is the digestive system
The system of organs and body structures that work together during the process of digestion such as the mouth, esophagus, stomach, and intestines.
What is digestion?
The process in which food is broken down, it’s nutrients are absorbed and stored, and the wastes are eliminated.
What is excretion?
The process in which liquid and gas wastes are flushed from the body.
What is the excretory system?

What is gas exchange?
It happens in the lungs. It is a process in which carbon dioxide passes into the alveoli and oxygen passes into the capillaries.
What is gastric juice?

What is an organ?
A group of tissues (such as heart tissues) working together to perform a task (such as pumping blood).
What is an organ system?
A system that includes one or more organs that work together to perform a specific function in the body (example the circulatory system that moves blood to the body).
What is the respiratory system?
Body system that supplies blood with oxygen and removes carbon dioxide from the blood.
What is a tissue?
A group of cells that have the same structure and function (example muscle tissue).
