1.9 Rates Flashcards
1
Q
What is the rate equation?
A
The rate of a chemical reaction is related to the concentration of reactants
Rate = k [A][B]
2
Q
What is “k” in the rate equation?
A
K is the constant
The units vary and must be calculated
3
Q
Will K vary with temperature?
A
Yes!
4
Q
How to find the rate constant from a graph?
A
k= Ae -^Ea/RT
OR
Ln K = -Ea/RT + LnA
Where slope = -Ea/RT
Intercept= lnA
5
Q
What is the rate limiting step?
A
The slowest steps which limits everything else
It must satisfy collision theory, where 2 atoms can collide; 3 cant or 1 Atom colliding/ breaking
∑of all steps = stoichiometric equation
the orders must reflect the rate equation
