A
the work done per unit mass in displacing a body from infinity to that point
(work done to pull the body from no field into that place in the field )
infinity is the distance at which the field does not exist

what is escape velocity?
A
the minimum velocity required in order for a non propelled body to escape the gravitational pull of a planet. GPE=KE

what are the assumptions of escape velocity?
A
- minimum velocity: assumes that all KE is transferred to GPE, unrealistic if the planet has an atmosphere
- non- propelled: all KE ins imparted in one go with no further transfers
- escape: realstically you cannot and won’t go to infity in order to longer feel the pull
