18.1 + 18.2 Gravitational Fields, Newton's Law of Gravitation Flashcards
what are the charactertics of fields in general?
- the greater the field line density, the stronger the field
- fields are vectors (state the direction of force)
- field lines neevr cross but chnage pattern
- fields are uniform (constant strength) or radial (strength changes with displacement)
what is gravitational field strength?
the force per unit mass
for planers g depends on mass and radius
what are the assumptions of the gracitational force between two bodies?
- attractive force
- proportional to the mass of both bodies (M1,M2)
- inversley proprotional to distance between the bodies squared
state Newton’s Law of Gravitation
the gravitational force of attraction between two bodies is directly proportional to the product of the masses of the bodies and invrsley proprtional to the square of the distance between th centres of mass of the two bodies
state the equation from newton’s Law of Gravitation
How would you find the resultant force acting on a body subject to gravitational forces from multiple bodies?
single plane
How would you find the resultant force acting on a body subject to gravitational forces from multiple bodies?
two plane
what is the gravitational field constant?
