What is cardiovascular disease (CVD)?
a group of disorders of the heart and the blood vessels
What factors increase the risk od CVD?
high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, diet, genetics, physical inactivity, smoking
What are the benefits of antihypertensive?
Reduces risk of kidney failure, lowers blood pressure, increases volume of urine to get rid of excess fluids
What are the risks of antihypertensives?
Dizziness, arrhythmia and nausea
What are the benefits of statins?
Lowers cholesterol, minimal risk of side effects
What are the risks of statins?
Side effects that do appear are servere
muscle pain, liver damage, increased risk of diabetes, memory loss
What are the benefits of platelet inhibitors?
Preveents blood clots to limit narrowing of arteries and effective within arteries
What are the risks of platelet inhibitors?
Prone to heavy bleeding even from small injuries
