Communication
communicated
Why must the manner of communication between those involved in strategic change be carefully considered?
Communication must be clear - what someone believes they are saying is not necessarily the same as what the receiver thinks they are hearing.
The “Johari method” sets out four areas of disconnect in communication between ourselves and others:
1) A_____ - an area with open communication between all individuals - i.e. everyone has good knowledge and understanding
2) B____ s___ - an area where the communicator needs to seek additional knowledge to ensure everyone has a full understanding.
3) F_____ - a.k.a. “hidden area” - where the communicator has more knowledge and can dominate the conversation
4) U_______ - an area of uncertainty where all parties have limited or no knowledge, and therefore risk incorrect decision making.

6 Negotiation - use bargaining chips to bring people around
7 Force - give people no choice but to comply
8 Manipulation - use threats or coercion
