14α Comparison of Adjectives/Adverbs Flashcards
Comparison of Adjectives
Adjectives have three degrees, e.g., “beautiful” (positive), “more beautiful” (comparative), and “most beautiful” (superlative) or “brave” (positive), “braver” (comparative), and “bravest” (superlative)
In Greek the comparative and superlative of adjectives are regularly formed by adding -τερος, -τέρᾱ, -τερον and -τατος, -τάτη, -τατον to the stem of the positive:

Irregular Comparison of Adjectives
Some adjectives are irregular in their formation of comparatives and superlatives and show forms ending in -ίων or -ων (masculine and feminine) and -ῑον or -ον (neuter) for the comparative and -ιστος, -ίστη, -ιστον for the superlative. The comparatives are declined like σώφρων, σῶφρον
Comparison of Adverbs
The comparative degree of the adverb is the neuter singular of the comparative adjective, and the superlative degree of the adverb is the neuter plural of the superlative adjective
