What is a tablet and what does it do
Wireless connection via email, messaging and access to the internet
Small lightweight inexpensive laptop
Smaller screen and keyboard
Normally have USB ports but not optical drives (CD DVD)
What is a desktop and what does it do
A device with a large amount of storage, large display, extremely good graphics and ergonomically designed keyboard and mouse.
It is not portable and there is a risk of RSI
What is a smartphone and what does it do
Small lightweight and portable device with telephone and internet facilities
Smaller screen
Data can be exchanged with a computer
Contain software for an address book and note taking
What is an embedded system
A computer with another device
A single chip contains all elements that are essential for any computer ( RAM, ROM, CPU, input, output, clock)
What is a specialised system a what does it do
Makes certain jobs easier e.g satnav is better than a map
Limited use as it is very specific
What is a mainframe computer
A large powerful computer
Fast processing - billions of instructions per second
Used by large companies
Often connected to a lot of peripherals
What is a quantum computer
A computer that is in its early development stages and more powerful than regular computers
Performs calculations much quicker
Larger commercial use for research and modelling
General so much keep they have to be kept in specially designed rooms
