What is BPH
Benign prostatic hyperplasia - large prostate impinges on urethra
When will you see BPH?
Men > 50
What are signs and symptoms of BPH?
- UTI
- Increased frequency of urination, urgency
- Delayed flow, slow, spraying, incomplete
How is BPH diagnosed?
History, palpation, urinalysis
What are interventions for BPH?
- Alpha reductase inhibitors to shrink glandular tissue
- Alpha adrenergic blockers to relax smooth muscle
- Antimuscarinics for overactive bladder
Describe surgery for BPH?
Transurethral resection of prostate - scope into urethra and excess tissue cut away
What are things to keep in mind when treating someone with testicular cancer?
- Maintain endurance
- Positioning
What is PID?
Pelvic Inflammatory Disease - bacterial infection and inflammation of upper genital tract
What are signs and symptoms of PID?
Asymptomatic, vaginal bleeding, discharge, burning with urination, fever, chills, painful intercourse
Where can pain be referred with PID?
Abdomen, pelvis, low back
