- Quick sugar
- Wait 15 minutes
- Re-check, exercise if levels improve
What is a good level of sugar to introduce prior to exercise if blood sugar is low?
4-6 oz of juice or two graham crackers
What should you do in the outpatient setting if glucose is between 145-300?
Light workout intensity, follow up with MD
What should you do in the outpatient setting if glucose is > 300?
- Ask about meds
- Ask about food intake today
- Ask about yesterdays glucose levels
- Call MD
What can happen to blood glucose levels in response to metabolic stress?
Increase significantly
What blood glucose levels is considered a relative contraindication for PT?

What is metformin?
Decreases the amount of insulin produced in the liver
What is bromocriptine?
Prevents insulin resistance
What is tradjenta/januvia?
Destroy enzyme that helps your body know when to produce more insulin - liver does not produce insulin unless it is needed
