What is cirrhosis?
Final stage of chronic inflammation of the liver - normal tissue has been killed and replaced by fibrotic tissue and nodular areas
What is the cause of cirrhosis?
Toxin, ETOH, other diseases
What are signs and symptoms of cirrhosis?
Fatigue, weight loss, jaundice, easily bruising or bleeding
How is cirrhosis diagnosed?
Symptoms, history, blood work
What are interventions for cirrhosis?
Stop drinking, meds to maintain function, transplant
What is the prognosis of cirrhosis?
6 months or less once at end stage
What is Ascites?
Fluid accumulation in the abdomen
What is the cause of Ascites?
Live cirrhosis, CHF, kidney issues, infection, nutrition, Cushing’s
What is Cholelithiasis?
Gallstones - stones form in bladder due to salts or cholesterol
What is cholecystectomy?
Gallbladder removal
What is nephritis?
Kidney infection, acute or chronic
What is the cause of nephritis?
Usually UTI that migrates up
What can chronic nephritis lead to?
Kidney fibrosis
What are signs and symptoms of nephritis?
Abrupt pain, fever, chills, malaise
Where will pain be located with nephritis?
On flank, low back over kidneys
