What countries were industrially advanced in comparison to Russia in 1855?
In 1855 Britain, Belgium, France and German states were industrially advanced with factories, coal pits, railways ect.

Why was Russia economically behind? (2)
Russia was committed to serf-based economy, everything relied upon serfdom
Much of the Russian landscape was inhospitable
What were the most common peasant purchases - how were they most often obtained?
Common peasant purchases consisted of Vodka, metal tools and salt, often acquired through exchanges at fairs or towns
What happened to the usual forces of change? (2)
Wage earners - Serfs were poor and most survived on the produce they grew, there was little opportunity to earn money. There was little internal demand - most things were traded. Money was mostly futile
Little entrepreneurship as land-owners could get what they wanted from Serf
