1.14 Design Communication Flashcards
What can be used to communicate information about design proposals?
- Visual methods: mood boards, photos, technical drawings
- Written methods: reports, evaluation
- Numerical methods: charts, graphs
What might manufacturing specifications include?
Information in the form of technical drawings, annotations and numerical tables
What are written reports?
Formal documents that contain detailed information about proposed designs
Who are written reports shared with?
Co workers and clients so consideration must be given to the readers of the report, the content should be presented in a standard format and be easily understood
What items are included in a formal report?
- Brief summary -Manufacturability
- Short introduction - Summary of
- References results
- Explanations - Conclusions
- Prototype - Appendix
- Relevant issues - Bibliography
- Associated costs
- Environmental impact
What is a brief summary?
A summary of the design project
What is a short introduction?
An explanation of the context for the design task and the objectives of the project
What are references?
A list of the research activities undertaken to investigate the design brief
What are explanations?
Explanations of how ideas were tested and developed
What is a prototype?
A description of the prototype and it’s main features
What are relevant issues?
Notes about nay safety issues or hazards associated with the drain and manufacture of the product
What are associated costs?
Notes about the costs associated with the design, and possible modifications
What is environmental impact?
Notes about the environmental impact of sourcing materials and methods of production, and possible modifications
What is manufacturability?
Notes about the manufacturability of the design, and possible modifications or improvements
What are summary of results?
The results of testing the final design against the design criteria, prototype trials, customer feedback
