En is rarely used when demonstratives or articles precede (este, ese, un, etc.)
I’m not working this Saturday.
No trabajo este sábado.
en usually requires a singular noun when demonstratives aren’t used. ‘En sábados’ is highly unusual.
The pharmacy is open on holidays.
La farmacia está abierta en (o: los) días festivos.
With the verb estar, a is needed to refer to a specific day of the week.
What day is it?
It’s Friday.
¿A qué día estamos?
Estamos a viernes.
They will be with us on May 6th.
Estarán con nosotros el seis de mayo.
The exams are on June 25th.
Los exámenes son el veinticinco de junio.
‘en’ is used with words that refer to periods of time.
I’ll do it in a second.
Lo haré en un segundo.
It happened at Christmas.
Ocurrió en Navidad.
It’s Friday. It’s January.
Estamos a viernes. Estamos en enero.
We will finish this month.
Terminaremos este mes.
I’ll do it one of these days.
Lo haré un día de estos.
I had a lot of problems that week.
Aquella semana tuve muchos problemas.
The preposition ‘__’ is always omitted:
el mes que viene; la semana pasada.

I was sick the following day.
Al día siguiente estuve enfermo.
She got married the next week.
A la siguiente semana ella se casó. (siguiente can also follow the time word)
With the relative pronoun que, en is optional:
the year I was born
El año que nací

The week that I came.

In/during the week I was here. . . (en is possible at the beginning)
En la semana que estuve aquí . . .
The week that I was here was full of surprises.
La semana que estuve aquí estuvo llena de sorpresas.
In the week that I was here I had two accidents.
En la semana que estuve aquí tuve dos accidentes.
I’ll be with you in a minute.
Estaré contigo en un minuto.
I only saw her for a minute.
Sólo la vi un minuto.
We were there for a moment.

I’ll finish it in 2 hours’ time.

I had to prepare it in 3 months.

at 11 oclock in the morning (por is not used/ de is used since there is another time expression)
a las once de la mañana.
She woke me up in the middle of the night.

the time before midnight and sunrise:
la madrugada
I never work late at night.
Nunca trabajo de madrugada.
Nunca trabajo por la madrugada.
When a specific event is narrated you can use en + article:
On the morning of april 8th, we got important news.
En la mañana del ocho de abril recibimos importantes noticias.
demonstrative adjectives can be used for emphasis:
On that morning of April 8th I received . . .
Esa mañana del ocho de abril recibí
We’ll see each other tomorrow morning.
Nos veremos mañana por la mañana.
on Monday morning

el viernes por la noche
Tomorrow’s class has been put off.
La clase de mañana ha sido aplazada.
Today’s paper doesn’t say anything.
El periódico de hoy no dice nada.

The time at which she came was very strange.
