0513 - Vascular Filtration - EG Flashcards
What is the diameter of an erythrocyte?
7um
Which of the following tissues has the highest capillary density - muscle, brain or lung?
lung
Which of the following tissues has the lowest capillary density - muscle, brain or lung?
muscle
what are the two types of solute exchange?
flow limited and diffusion limited. In flow limited the capacity for diffusion is greater than the solute delivery rate and an equilibrium is reached, whereas in diffusion limited there solute delivery rate is greater than the diffusion capacity, hence equilibrium is not reached by the capillary end.
What is Starling principle of fluid exchange?
filtration pressure = (Pc - Pi) - sigma (osmotic suction in plasma - osmotic suction in interstitium)
Briefly describe the fluid balance along a capillary.
arterial end has net outward force due to high pressure, venous end has net inward force due to loss of pressure on osmotic suction of plasma proteins.
What factors increase lymph flow?
increased capillary pressure, decreased plasma osmotic suction, increased interstitial osmotic suction, increased capillary permeability.
