1
Q

When to abort Takeoff?

A
Door opens
Fuel/Oil caps missing
Smoke from engine
Ruff running engine
Seat problems
Poor acceleration

*Cannot abort if used more than 1/2 Tora (put a marker! same spot as 70% Vr)

Q

Procedure for a Door Opening during flight…

A

Keep flying, ignore the Door, Maintain aircraft control
Noise + Airflow are a nuisance only, but a Big distraction!
Climb to 1000’ agl
Some doors cannot be closed airborne

Q

Bits falling off…then

A

Fly a bit faster so smaller bits that are left can be more effective

Q

Indications of an Alternator Failure?

A

Battery Volts will be going down (no longer charging so will be showing <12.3 v)

I have 60min due to my 2 Battery setup

Q

Procedure in the event of a Total Electrical Failure…

A

Go Vfr

At night, this is a Red Page, I must Land asap as Batteries won’t last
Turn off all un-necessary Electrics=
Transponder off + Radio off

Check CB’s

Q

Actions in the even of a Prop Governor Failure?

A
Reduce throttle (MP inches)
It should fail in the 'fine' position, not a real problem...

Q

Deteriorating Weather thoughts…

A

How much Vis do I still have?
(start a timer and evaluate how long it takes a feature to pass abeam, when I am going at 1.5 miles min or 90 mph G/S)

3 Min is Good
2 min is Marginal, bad idea, divert or end this flight
1min is time to do a 180deg turn, this flight plan is now a Diversion

Always consider/evaluate Obstacles are predominantly where?
[I am also probably off my drawn map track]

Could offset my track by 0.5nm for best imc 180back turn over lower ground without obstacles as indicated on my map.

Don’t wait to be IMC…to decide to turn-around…that’s not smart.

Nobody every had a midair by climbing in IMC…if no Icing and not a thick layer.

You do not want to be imc without a clearance near an aiport…

Q

Icing has no effect on?

A

Ai: it’s all good, go up or down, turn back…
Ignore loss of ias, fly by Pitch attitude, Power setting

If ias reliable then carry a bit of extra speed for increased weight
(monitor the Gps G/S)

Carb Icing…

A

Monitor Oat and Carb temp gauge…

Suspected when there is a loss of cruise ias (not G/S)

Procedure=
Put Carb Heat on, except the engine to run rough…

Use Manual Pitch Trim, could also move pax
Could use Power to control pitch

Q

Considerations in the event of Strong Crosswind at Destination?

A

Land on a different runway
Use the longer or wider Runway at same airport
Prefer grass Fields over Cement strip
Flap 2 notches when LDA permits
Land on a Taxiway that is into Wind
Delay…assuming source of wind is of temporary nature
Consider Wx trend and FOB
Divert early (even off-field landing)

A

Get out of Fire prone area Asap
ELT on, Iphone to Emergency
Garmin In-Reach
1st Aid
Gun out, try VHF Radio
Find Water
Light a Fire to stay warm
Shelter & Stay with the Plane
Avoid cuts, very careful with Knife

Q

Precautionary off-field Landing are a good idea when…

A
Deteriorating weather
<1min forward Vis without any 100% certain outs!
Low Fuel (like 4 Gallons or less)
'0' oil pressure indication
Visible oil leak
Partial Engine Power
Serious Vibs
Structural Damage
Pilot Incapacitation
17
Q

How to fly a Flapless landing due to a mechanical fault…

A

Increases landing distance by 50%
Don’t flare, fly it on the runway
Higher Vref for margin due to increased stall speed

[Only put flaps out below once Vfo; not in a turn (wings level)]

18
Q

Ground Loop

A

Aileron against rising wing (towards Inside of turn)
Brake on opposite wheel (Outside of the turn, towards center or Runway)
Add power if your not going to have a prop strike and space permits

Mags off for imminent Prop strike

Remember…
<20kts won’t hurt much, better to grd loop than hit trees with prop.
Like boxing, need to do many taps on each side+never hold corrections too long
As rudder is less effective at slower speeds, you need larger taps!
Landing on a snaking dirt road will put a sideload that will cause a Ground loop!

19
Q

Foreflight yellow traffic is at what range and altitude?

A

<1200’ vertical
<2nm
<45 sec

20
Q

Foreflight Red traffic is at what range and altitude?

A

<1200’ vertical
<1.2 sm
<25sec

21
Q

What error must we assume on Tis-B altitude readouts?

A

+-300’ traffic info services

22
Q

How large is Puck on Tis-B

A

15nm front, behind, and within 3500’ vertically

23
Q

What is update rate on Tis-B

A

10sec or so

24
Q

What is a good ‘mindset’ during a partial power loss (800rpm)

A

Land
Assume an immediate off-field forced landing
Be accurate, don’t Flub my approach!
