Wrist and Hand Flashcards
Wrist
movement primarily between radius and proximal carpals. Condyloid joints between radius and scaphoid and lunate
Wrist Flexors
Originate anteromedially at the forearm and insert anteriorly at the hand
Wrist Extensors
Originate posterolaterally at the forearm and insert posteriorly at the hand
Lateral Epicondylitis
Tennis elbow
Overuse injury of the wrist extensors/supinator, where they attach to the lateral epicondyle of the humerus
Causes: repetitive wrist extension and supination, eccentric muscle actions
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Overuse injury and common form of RSI
Symptoms: numbness, tingling, decreased sensation in the hand
Causes: repetitive inflammation within carpal tunnel - tendon inflammation, compresses the median nerve to the hand
